Another Milestone
Oh my goodness!!! At 12 tonight, something horrible, something awful is going to happen. I'm going to lose something I'll never, ever be able to get back!!!!
That's right. Tomorrow is my birthday, and at midnight, I will lose my final teenage year. It will be over, kaputz, done for!
I loved being a teenager. It's that stage in your life where you can still do adult things, but often shrug off responsibility because you're still a kid. High school was wonderful, and the first two years of college have been great. As a teenager, I got my driver's license, I made straight A's, and I wrote several plays. What in the world am I going to do now?
Well, I imagine that in my twenties, I'll get my Bachelor's degree, my Master's degree, and my Doctoral degree. I'll find a job at a high school and look towards moving to the college level somewhere in my early 30's. I imagine my 20's will be full of happy, sad, lonely, fulfilled, awful, and wonderful times. A lot, however, remains to be seen.
I am certain of one thing. I will try my best at it all, and my 20's will slip by, just as my teens have.
So, for the final time as a teenager, I'll say.....
May God keep you this and every night.
"Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul."
