My Enthusiasm

Many people view me as a very enthusiastic and positive person. I must say they are right, but my outlook is because of a very important reason.

You see, I almost didn't live. I was born premature. My case was not just a normal case of a premature baby, but rather there were big problems. My mom had just gone in for a normal checkup, but the doctor found something very, very wrong.

My mother had internal bleeding. Her blood was mixing with mine, and her white blood cells were destroying my red ones. I was dying inside my mother's womb. The umbilical cord had wrapped around my neck. Every time my mother contracted, it was choking me and my heart would skip a beat.

An emergency c-section was done. When I came out, my mother wasn't sure I was alive because she couldn't hear me crying. The only noise I was making was a small squeaking. and I was rushed to Ashville for an immediate blood transfusion.

Fortunately, the transfusion was a success. I've now lived what's been a wonderful 19 years.

So you see, the reason I'm always so excited about life, is because I almost didn't have it. When something happens to me, good or bad, I enjoy the fact I even had the opportunity for it to happen. I revel in the fact I have friends and family, because I almost didn't get to have them. I take every chance to laugh, cry, smile, and love.

People ask me why I'm so excited...I ask them "Why aren't you as excited as I am?"

May God keep you this and every night.
